The Grahams...

Ostlers Close restaurants the GrahamsJimmy and Amanda Graham have been the proprietors of Ostlers Close since 1981. They have firmly established themselves as one of Scotland's premier restaurants, receiving many accolades along the way. The development of the restaurant over the last 30 years has been a journey of discovery for them, and time has increased their passion for food, rather than diminished it.

Over the years, they have established an amazing network of cottage industry suppliers, sourcing the best seasonal Scottish produce available - 'the more local the better' and are pleased to support the development of the Fife Farmer's Market and the Fife Food Initiative. Jimmy uses Balhelvie Farm Lamb, Puddledub Pork, the local Ceres Butcher, East Neuk lobster and prawns, hand-dived scallops from the Isle of Mull, Glamis asparagus, Fife soft fruit farms, the list is endless, and he feels privileged to have such as bountiful larder on his doorstep.

Ostlers Close restaurants the GrahamsSo committed to wanting the freshest of ingredients for his kitchen, that Jimmy grows some of his own produce, with the help of a polytunnel to extend the growing season:- salad crop, herbs, courgettes, leeks, to name a few, as well as cultivating fruits - plums, damsons, rhubarb, apples, blackcurrants and blackberries. There is no use of insecticides and, as a chef, this gives him the confidence in his ingredients as there is something very satisfying in cooking the fruits of your own labours.

Jimmy's other passion is wild mushroom picking. When they are in season, every spare moment is devoted to foraging, from St. George's in late spring, all the way through to the frosts, that finish off the cep and chanterelle season. Autumn is the ideal time to visit, if you want to sample the delights of a wild mushroom salad- a firm favourite!

Amanda's main role is in the running of the restaurant and with her small team of staff, she provides an informed service but maintains a friendly and relaxed atmosphere for the customers. Outwith opening hours, she works alongside Jimmy in the restaurant, making the desserts and preserves from their garden produce.

A visit to Ostlers Close is a rewarding experience where you can be assured of the finest food, the best of service and a warm Scottish welcome.
"Chef Jimmy Graham is one of the finest in the St. Andrews area, and he's known to pick his own wild mushrooms. Golfers with discriminating palates flock to this modestly appointed place, which makes the best use of fish and seafood from the Fife Coast, as well as ducks from a local free-range supplier. Everything is delectable."
